Summer Gypsy might be the only song in here I don't love
it's a cool song, but just kinda dull when compared to the rest

>never rly got the nujabes hype :/
bretty much the first artist to really hit it big with the kinda sound that would eventually lead to the "lo-fi hip-hop radio chill beats to study/relax to" craze

I don't think you're /that/ wrong...maybe with regard to Sput Hype, and especially on an individual user level, but if the object of inquiry is "hype" (as per ryus) more generally then idk...
Remember that in 06 Iai was able to soundoff, in earnest, "The fact that Nujabes is yet to make massive waves in the music world has everything to do with the fact that his unfortunate position - that of being a Japanese hip-hop artist that isn't called DJ Krush..."
Nujabes is youtube canon now with hella videos with over a million views. DJ Krush has one such. idk. very few people seriously into music would cop to "I love nujabes because lo-fi chill beats to study to!" and that's probably more what ryus is talking about (the reasons for appreciation and fandom that lie, as the kids would say, among us) but structurally/in general I can't help but think that "hype" operates somewhat more like park says than you seem to think. maybe?

kinda but his hype is built different since it was always around before the trends

ngl i wouldnt be surprised if his popularity with pasty internet nerds is owed to some similar kind of appeal as atcq and de la soul
also if you really hate yourself go read the rym shoutbox with all the "would be better without rapping" comments
