what case, this is pathetic
You say there are no layers to this music but you can't distinguish the subtle craftsmanship that makes Filosofem sound the way it does, it's just a wall of noise. First of all, start exploring the genre that is noise music then get back to me about Filosofem having no form or structure and being an abrasive listen, this sounds like odinpop in comparison. There is plenty of layering going on, it is just subtle. But what can I expect from someone who probably thinks guitar solos are the pinnacle of music.
Second of all, you don't understand post-modern perspectives on music at all. What constitutes art has been in question for decades, these extreme examples such as banging your heard on a wall which you have provided would surely not be aesthetically pleasing to most but drawing comparisons between such actions and this album is a little bit of an exaggeration, don't you think? Taste is a very subjective thing, there is nothing worse then someone who can't understand that very little is beyond criticism, let alone the small collection of technical metal bands you seem to hold on such a high pedestal whilst you make poorly thought out criticisms of stuff that is clearly outside of your comfort zone. Yeah, there is a lot of bad music to be had when it comes to extreme genres like this (and fans aren't always in agreement about what constitutes good), but to make the absurd claims you do makes me think your head is an empty vacuum whilst these sound frequencies warble all around you.

@Cryogenix
Naah dude, I'm just into a bit more complex stuff than listening to the same sound for hours....If complexity has got nothing to do with musical worth than truly even a moron banging his head on a wall can be called a musical genius and Wagner was the most stupid person in history.
Kind of like how most of Ride of the Valkyries is one theme repeated over and over...
Complexity has nothing to do with quality,
Also, since you keep on mentioning classical music, watch this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qq7ncjhSqtk Not very complex at all, definitely not technical (in fact, it's a piece written for children to play when they just start learning the piano), but it so much greater than anything Symphony X or Meshuggah could ever hope to write.

well it's not like Meshuggah wanted to write that kind of music in the first place

@Relinquished
Didn't mean for it to come across that way, I just wanted to point out that despite the fact that it isn't technical at all, it still manages to be moving.

I don't dislike it. I suppose that specific term was a bit harsh. There are some great riffs and great ideas in songwriting/structure. I just feel that it's lacking a certain cohesiveness that this and HLTO exemplify.
