Goodnight my love

Remember me as you fall to sleep

Fill your pockets with the dust and the memories

That rises from the shoes on my feet

I won't be back here

Though we may meet again

I know it's dark outside

Don't be afraid

Every time I ever cried from fear

Was just a mistake that I made

Wash yourself in your tears

And build your church

On the strength of your faith

Please

Listen to me

Don't let go

Don't let this desperate moonlight leave me

With your empty pillow

Promise me the sun will rise again

I too am tired now

Embracing thoughts of tonight's dreamless sleep

My head is empty

My toes are warm

I am safe from harm

'Don't let this desperate moonlight leave me'

Can never work out if this was meant to be a tongue in cheek Bowie reference and it sort of snaps me out of that song a tiny bit.

The way he sings it makes me think it's intentional and meant to be a bit funny.

It's a weird phrase, 'desperate moonlight', it doesn't seem to fit with the rest of the lyrics - it always reminded me of 'under the moonlight, this serious moonlight' from 'Let's Dance'

It might just be me now thinking about it xD

Yeah, I'm talking absolute nonsense, just an association I make - ignore

Pretty sure they were into some country as well since they were friends and recorded with Will Oldham around the same time as this

For Dinner and the fact that Good Morning Captain is ever so slightly overrated.

The weird groove can get a bit annoying at times and I don't think the payoff is quite great enough

Plus the screams at the end are kind of try hard

Idk it's still an amazing song just not a perfect 5/5

‘Good Morning Captain’, if I invest in the experience fully, is one of the only tunes that can be relied on to destroy me.

Every time I listen to it I expect to be a bit more wowed by it than I really am, I think if I'd heard it without the hype I'd be a bit more favorable thogh.

I mean I started out thinking this album was a 3 so you have to give me some slack.

That could be it, for me the lyrics and the performance connect like little else

It’s a tune I have to concentrate on and invest a bit in emotionally to get the full impact though, it does build slow

The nature of the song is a bit too performative for me to get that emotionally attached to it.

And idk I have a really hard time separating my own impressions from hype/what I've read elsewhere, 90% of the time I know what I'm going to rate something before I even listen to it.
