This album is good it's a bit bland tho honestly. Other than the live production sound theres nothing really that stands out/separates it from the others. it kinda just sounds like a random groovy meshuggah album. Koloss I feel like stood out because it was a slightly more straightforward groovy album and then this came out I kinda always felt like it's just koloss pt 2 with a diff production sound.

And then not Koloss since it's less catchy.

Yeah, this is probably their least catchy album so far, very cold sounding

Think that might indeed be the case, yeah. Still excellent!

honestly I see this as more of its own thing and Koloss is more like Obzen Pt. 2 haha

I don't see more similarities between obZen and Koloss than between this one and obZen. To me, both this one and obZen are colder, less catchy, and Koloss is the outlier.

Curious where the new one will go in this comparison!

its all just Meshuggah in the end, these kind of comparisons are somewhat tenuous anyway

Yes, for sure. Yet it's always interesting to see how people experience these things so differently.

One thing is for sure, Clockworks is one of their best openers. Following with Born in Dissonance wow...

The only better one-two punch is probably on Chaosphere with Concatenation and NMCC

Or Stengah (aka One Of Their Best Tunes Ever)!!! Or Future Breed Machine (aka One Of Their Best Tunes Ever)! Or Combustion. So many great openers.

Combustion is probably my favorite opener, given the rest of the record...but yeah

agreed.
