Isolation Years has such a mysterious and emotional vibe. The lyrics are like a mystery unsolved and the sound, somehow it sounds like antiquated/old in a way like it's from some medieval time or something. Probably the lyrics add to that vibe.
i always thought Isolation Years was like a companion piece to the song ''Benighted'' from Still Life, too.

Hours of Wealth is my fave of the lighter songs on this one, the vibe on that track is something else.

@Eons: Isolation Years might actually be my favorite Opeth ballad. Absolutely beautiful, and the guitar tone gives me goosebumps every time

it's coil for me, the femme + akerfeldt duo just hits all the notes, also the album art is just so ominous

I do love that song. The structuring is so simple but the vocal switch-ups make it feel like it has more progression despite the shorter length.

Yeah they have a lot of beautiful softer songs, Hours of Wealth possibly being my favorite. The first half alone is so magical sounding and enchanting.

All the songs listed above are amazing, would have to add Weakness to the list purely for the feels.

"greatest hits album"
Too reductive. It's more than that. The total is better than the sum of its parts.

maybe true, but the experience of listening to the first two tracks back to back >>> the experience of listening to the whole album hm
|
| |
Yeah those first two tracks sound a lot like Hours of Wealth 😂
