tbh i did kinda blank this band from my mind as a result of that album. i mean freedom didnt ruin their old stuff for me forever, but i literally have not listened to any of their stuff since the release of freedom until right now.

its not a particularly insightful or significant piece of communist art is it? i mean its a pretty significant work in the genre of punk but i dont think that has anything to do with the lyrics

Also one of my friends is a communist and dislikes this album on the basis of it "stealing all its ideas from better underground bands"

well, they did steal a lot of ideas from other bands (most notably the nation of ulysses) but this really has its own distinctive style

I think that this album succeeds in illustrating the angst and frustration that blossoming leftists experience, which is more often than not incoherent, naive, but raw and sincere. To argue that there is any depth here would be ridiculous, anyone that enjoys hardcore could like and appreciate this album regardless of their politics (Frank Turner for example), and I think that albums like La Dispute's Wildlife do significantly better at illustrating stories giving life to the socio-economic conditions that fuel socialists without ever being explicitly socialistic.
