If Tool gets the 6.5 then who is the 10/10 creepy riff band? Want to listen.

Aenima is brilliant but Lateralus is without flaws, no question.

Yup yup. Finally, a voice of reason. Lateralus is untouched...as amazing as Aenima is. But Lateralus is just out of this world perfect. Possibly my favorite album of all time. Top 3 for sure

Not gonna lie to you guys..don't really get the hype about this band although I do enjoy the music (especially this album). A 3.5/5 band for me - not out of this world or anything like so many claim. Find it a bit pretentious at times.

Lol good question tbh. top of my head, Slint, pre-Times of Grace Neurosis, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - but tbh I wouldn't jam rock/metal for creepy fixes most times so maybe it's a little unfair

The only reason anyone would ever find Tool pretentious is because he has been exposed to the "tool is pretentious" meme way before he actually heard their music

full disclosure, the first encounter of any kind i had with Tool was on Guitar Hero World Tour aged 13, and back then i thought it was dull contrived waffle. would most certainly have used the word 'pretentious' if it'd been in my wheelhouse
not sure which side this reflects more badly on, esp since the Tool set included Vicarious and Parabola, both of which are great shit

Imagine being 13 and considering something 'contrived waffle'.
You should confront your parents.

I heard Tool for the first time in 6th grade. Undertow has just come out and I saw the Sober video on Headbanger’s Ball. So Tool and I go back a loooong time.

No doubt man. Watching their progression was amazing. When Aenima came out, it was like...what the fuck is this?! Blew people’s minds at the time. Then Lateralus blew them even further.

...back when MTV was actually awesome, played actual music videos and Beavis and Butthead baby.

I remember hearing Sober on the radio, but the stupid DJ never said what the song was called or who it was by. This was also before Shazaam or any way you could look up the radio's setlist on the internet, so I just had to hope in vein that this time the DJ would say the song name or the band. The one time he did, it sounded like he said "Duelsk" or "Doolsk", so I went around town asking if anyone had heard of Duelsk. The record store owner was of no help and looked at me like I was inbred.
I ;ater found out who it was because someone one owned the CD, and it was an epic "OH SHIT, THIS IS THE BAND I WAS TALKING ABOUT!!!" moment.

^that's pretty funny
and yes Larkin, MTV was awesome at one time. Hard rock and heavy metal dominated the airwaves, the top 10 most wanted videos every day at 5pm, beavis and butthead, the game show remote control, etc....

Dude, you remember Loveline with Dr Drew and Adam Carolla?! Used to love that shit.
And just the early/mid 90s with grunge blowing up. Rock was probably the most popular genre at that time. Now? Hopeless.
