No Source, stop making it difficult for me. I could be persuaded to start with the numbers album though.

2112 is a bad starting point imo I'd vote Clockwork Angels or Moving Pictures, even Permanent Waves too.

but don't you like to hear a band's evolution? starting with a band's best material is lame imo, unless it happens to be their first album

I do, but chronological isn’t always best. There’s nothing stopping you returning to their early material later on, otherwise you end up putting a lot of work in for minimal gains (in some scenarios, not necessarily Rush).

For me you check the deeper cuts once you’re already getting into the artist, sometimes that means leaving their early material till later. I love Neurosis and think their first 2 are underrated, but no way in hell am I recommending someone starts with Pain of Mind. It’s situation depending.

That's the orthodox way to do it. Old school

Id just check the highlights, and if I really enjoy it, go deeper. So much music, too little time.

@Demon,

Thats an alternative that also work.

The most important part is the fun.

An other way is anti-chrono.

And, an other one, is all their bad first, keeping the best for dessert.

Again, IMO if your having fun doing it. Thats the prime goal.

Sometimes, i add the Remastered one alongside their original, and choose

to play both, or just the RM, or just the original. It depend.

Often, i start with their best global rating, and if i like it. I restart chrono.

Their is good work in all of these methods.

Everyone's talking about which order to look at a band's work, whereas I just start at the album that has the nicest-looking artwork.
