fair enough. I almost feel like I just expect the reception to be the reverse in hindsight: Oceanic has all that conceptual lining, their more unique (maybe) (and to me iconic) songs like "weight," is so nicely structured, etc.

this is all subjective but for some reason I just figured Oceanic would be the True Masterpiece for some of those reasons and others but I guess Panopticon has a specific appeal. I can kinda get the idea that it's more purely dedicated to really well-thought-out sonics and structures on the level of individual songs. less "oppressive" thematically and sorta nicer sounding too maybe

oceanic is incredible but its also sludgier than this

and in being sludgier than this its almost by definition less unique

i like music where the guitars do weird things, and this is more densely packed with that on the hard hitters

yeah that kinda makes sense. this one has the more splashless integration of post-rock and metal stuff maybe?

That's why I enjoy ITAOT the most, it's their most proggy effort and feels very unique.

I used to an Oceanic guy, mostly because of how raw and heavy it is but this is just as good on its own right. I think we can finally say blue equals green
