Maynard gives a very good performance here, but I understand people's comments about being underwhelmed considering that comparatively it's pretty disappointing, since he was basically the best singer in rock music at the time with Aenima, Lateralus, and some of 10X Days.

This is probably the most accessible, but not the most representative. I would tell anyone looking to get into Tool to check out Lateralus first... then 10,000 Days. Those are their perfect albums. The first two are uncouth. Great, but messy.

Was just at a bar, and Fear Inoc came on, fuck it was refreshing and went down well amongst our group of 15,all with various music tastes. I gave a mini lecture on the album and the band, then the song ended and everyone went back to drinking.

Start with Undertow, go chronologically to the end, then circle back to Opiate at the end (and Salival if you can find it).

Enjoy the ride.

Definitely not. Undertow or Aenima are most accessible imo.

Not a shot, bro. Those are much more aggressive than this.

But really, we aren't feeding babies here. They can start anywhere... I'm just highlighting my perspective.

Same. It's one of their best songs overall.

I think Lateralus is by far the most accessible one. This is an unaccessible hunk of slow-builds-no-pay-off.
