They kicked him out unceremoniously because he didn't vibe with their lifestyles.

I'm putting it nicely.

he is an overrated bum nobody cares, he didn't make this band

he wasn't even on their best material which is the new reign

That's needlessly hateful.

I dig the new reign, but nothing after The Discovery.

He is still responsible for the best parts of this record, which are the great lead guitars and melodies.

I may not like the bands he went on to play with, but he still made this record great, and I'm not about to discount that because of what came after.

band had great leads before and after

he's done nothing good since this

I don't think the leads or the melodies were very notable on anything before or after.

The New Reign had some cool leads, but it wasn't their melodies that made them cool. They did some neat rhythmic stuff, but they didn't have the melodies to compliment them.

I don't think saying do the math is a very strong argument against the sound that they've never had prior, and haven't been able to replicate, especially when you look at the critical success of this record compared to any of their others.

In regards to the logic of your argument - plenty of bands/artists have created both good and bad music, so whether or not he went on to do anything like this again isn't really a good point.

it's a great point considering this is the only good thing richardson has ever done

his bizarre rep as this virtuso is just ridiculously overblown

I never argued it wasn't, I just don't like how he was treated, and I don't like their other records for the reasons I stated. He was also responsible for what I liked about the record, so here we are.

Virtuosic playing doesn't necessarily translate to being a good composer. That's a separate argument.

I just think they make catchy music with interesting production. I was pretty clear that they're not specifically to my taste. Don't be obtuse. Calling me The Sleep Token guy is needlessly combative, and 100% inaccurate. My entire argument wasnt even about their music, but the dramatic discourse surrounding them.

I'm not interested in entertaining bad faith arguments or confrontation. I'm here for a good time, friend.

How is recognizing that you can't account for differences in taste combative?

You definitely misunderstood my intent, friend.

I don't know the type of people you're used to dealing with, but I'm not that type of person.

Richardson was good on this and on the two Chelsea Grin releases he was on but other than that I think songwriting is pretty bad despite how technically impressive he is. I think them booting him out of this band because he didn't party hard or get high like them is really funny still lol what a beast mode thing to do

I think it's pretty hateful and childish. That's all I was saying.

I think it's indicative of poor character.

I'm not making any arguments about whether or not anyone should enjoy their music.

What is your point? Can you explain why I wouldn't be without making assumptions?

I don't know why treating people well would prevent me from having a good time, or why it would prevent people around me from having a good time.

I'm not offering my personal opinion on anything but their behaviour. You said it yourself. If they had a conversation with the guy before hand and let him know it wasnt working out, that would be one thing. They just replaced the dude and kicked him out with no discussion.

This isn't something I'm actively upset about. Ive never been pressed on a comment I made in passing like this, so maybe it seems like I want to argue about it, but I feel like Im being forced to explain my perspective, so that's what Im doing. I don't wish to impart any ill will.

They didn't really give the guy any warning, or talk to him about it.

Beyond that, it is the only record I ever return to in full, but even then, only rarely.

Sometimes my buddy will put on Abstract Art when he is drunk, and I do enjoy that track. It's definitely my favourite thing they've done outside of this record.
