Production is objective in the sense that Godspeed You! Black Emperor are better than Ke$ha. It's ultimately subjective but sometimes you can't really argue it in a serious manner.
In the case of production, you could say St Anger's production is objectively bad. I mean, that's ultimately subjective / an opinion, but again, how could someone seriously argue that it isn't bad?
Those are really obvious examples of course. Usually it's less clear cut as we're dealing with here. For Wavering Radiant, I think the album overall is kinda meh...but c'mon, you have to say the production is really good. Extremely clear. Maybe it lacks a bit of punch, it's not perfect, but as productions go, in music and in Post-Metal, it's one of the better ones I've heard. I don't see how anyone could seriously say it's bad. Nothing like Panopticon though, which is God-tier.

lost me on the first line there

Yup, that sentence just illustrates my point, especially when plenty of people (including fans) criticised the production on Yanqui U.X.O., for example. Go on to any audiophile forum and you will be met with people who love/hate certain productions, based on often minor things.

This is just like when the philosophy major shows up in your art history class and derails the first lecture because "art is a social construct" and there is no such thing as good or bad art.
Fucking yes there is. Outta here with that shit.

~I went to the florist and I said to she
I need a flower for today I’ll be
A-wooing a lady
I’ll hold this flower beneath her nose
It should smell as sweet as a rose
For this, she said, I’d recommend a rose
For a rose-like scent, I’d probably go with a rose~

"i jammed this album while giving blood lmao"
Man, I could never do something like that. Even just getting my blood drawn for the Navy freaks me out. It's funny too, because I'm ok with needles otherwise... just having it in the vein messes with me for some reason.
Hyper-specific fear, I know. lol
