For sure. And I agree with what you said about movies vs. music. One is mostly a passive activity while the other requires direct engagement. Obviously you can be directly engaged with music, but it's less common, especially among non-critics and radio-goers who just treat it like something to fill the silence in the background.

Also, not that you are contending the point anyway, but DrGonzo is absolutely right about the repetitive nature being intentional.

Yeah I guess my point was that movies require total submission of the senses, whereas you can listen to music while driving, while working at a computer, while working out at the gym, etc. without sacrificing much, if anything. Sure, if it’s an album I’m super stoked about I’ll listen to it in bed or something where I’m literally doing nothing else; but most of my music consumption comes during my work day. I have a desk job and can do it with mostly no issue while listening and paying genuine attention to the music, excluding obviously meetings and such.

Yeah I’ve always wondered about that. I always listen to music when at work/at the gym/driving/playing a game but I rarely just listen to music and that’s it. And I’ve really dedicated my life to music. Seems contradictory but I guess what makes good music great is you can have it in the background while enhancing what you are doing and go in and out of direct engagement

I feel like this largely contributes to the arguments of "this music is too repetitive" vs. not feeling that way, etc...type of engagement isn't something that gets thrown around in discussion as much.
...or people secretly believe there is some kind of "more authentic" way of consumption - eek

They would probably like Rings of Saturn more than this cause they like some deathcore and RoS have some amazing grooves but this is just pure agony for them, as is for me. Second song is a great song to first learn on guitar though I'll give it that, although it borders on meme territory how brain dead simple it is to play. I mean... even Nirvans is easier than that, fucking Nirvana.

I thought this was a bunch of bullshit when I first heard it so I empathize (I say this as the one who wrote the featured review of Lugal Ki En).
