I slowly gained interest in dm. Opeth was mainly what enticed me. then I got into Cynic and Atheist. this was the dm album that really blew me away. when I listened to this the first time I was like holy fuk why I have I been wasting my life listening to other stuff. this album was a huge gateway for me.

and yeah i can see that. i really love prog so opeth seems right down my alley as far as gateways go. i thought bwp was pretty sweet but i haven't heard anything else

bwp rules but isn't even their best imo. one of my favorite albums and their best imo is My Arms Your Hearse, but that is less prog-oriented. Still Life is also worth checking out. Ghost Reveries might be interesting for you too. I would recommend checking those out at some point if you're still interested in them.
