I like how Abe Cunningham plays almost hip hop/trip hop style drum beats on this album. Really unique drummer for this style of music. He adds a lot of 'vibe' to the band. It's weird but he gives some of the songs like a laid back Californian hip hop vibe. Can't explain it really. It fits perfectly with Franks work.

Frank + Abe together could form like an instrumental hip hop duo probably.

There's one interview where Chino quotes "it's cool that you wanna hear Meshuggah Carpenter but that's not what we are as a band" in regards of Carpenter's "i wanna play heavy shit not soft and melow music" lol

Funnily enough, Carpenter's Meshuaggah-worship riffs have been some of his best work on their recent albums, especially Ohms.

"Every thing aside from Passenger didn't do much for me. Band isn't for me lol."

Start with DE. It's far more accesible and might allow you to get into the rest of the discog. Also, hot take but this isn't even their best that title belongs to SNW.

The guest vocals on "Passenger" fucking suck.

Of course they don't "fucking suck", but I don't think the dual vocals work. They are way too different, they sound weird together and they end up dragging the song down a little bit. That is by far the weakest aspect of this album.

agreed with bloc, and I think Chino's vocal delivery can be super inspired by Tool at times so to say "they are way too different" is laughable tbh

Nobody else feels like it lacks the flow a few other Deftones records have?

Like every song here is good but SNW, Koi No Yokan, Diamond Eyes, and Ohms are all way more cohesive. This just feels like a record of singles, but I also mean that in the best way possible.

Need their entire discog in Dolby Atmos now that Apple Music has rolled out spatial audio.
