I think what really irks me about this album is the glaring bits of amateurish song writing.
In my estimation, musicians capable of writing the amazing parts that are on this album should have put a bit more effort in to the arrangement of the songs. Especially considering the transitions and arrangements on the previous albums.
Perhaps I'm missing the point tho. Simultaneously aiming for ultimate prog mastery and pop appeal at the same time is a fairly lofty goal I suppose.
However I think its that combination that will always sour this album to me.
