"if they released this today you'd be bent backward sucking on Akercock."
Hey man, Akercocke is a good band too lol

Need to revisit some Akercocke.
Always had a soft spot for this one since it was my first from them. Not sure where it would land on a ranking of their metal era though

You will rank it well, as all their works. Lol.

Heaviest Opeth - title track is one of their greatest achievemnets.

Agreed. One of their great achievemnets, indeed.

Having recently re-listened to their discog from Still Life to Watershed, this strikes me as their weakest in their golden years (Damnation aside), but I can't bring myself to 3.5 it.

Agreed. It's really very hard to give any album of Opeth less than a 4.0.

I have Damnation as a 3.5 actually. I've come off it big time over the years. Despite Windowpane and Ending Credits as 5s themselves

Personally I love that album too. First I gave it a 4.0. But it grew up with time on me. At the time it is a 4.5.

Ending credits is cool for what it is but it's my least favorite on the album. Feels more like an interlude track

Somehow it’s an outside track of the album, a very different one. But it has a simple justification. It represents a homage of Akerfeldt to Camel and Andrew Latimer too. He is a huge fan of the band and of the guitar style of Latimer.

Sure, but it still feels like an interlude so its hard for me to call it one of the best tracks. The whole song is just two simple motifs repeating for a few minutes
And yeah akerfeldt helped me discover camel. I actually ran into akerfeldt at a record store by chance and picked up a camel album and had him sign it lol
