I'm not an RYM user either but at this point I think it's a well known fact that ratings on RYM are on average ~0.5 points lower than here.
As for the band, it seems to me that they have some sort of Tool/Mastodon-like cult following, a good amount of die hard fans who will praise every single fart the band puts out.

Never got to see them perform live so I'll trust you on that.
My problem is that I can't stand breakdowns, and that hinders my enjoyment, but the faster parts are good.

I think this is just really their typical style completely perfected. The riffs, lyricism, and production are the best they’ve ever been. And I think that it’s their last record has an effect on it too

Aside from a few choice cuts, Gutter Phenomenon and Big Dirty are pretty mid compared to what these guys did later on
