Spencer where are the LOWS MY GUY??

I remember reading an interview with Spencer from when he was first getting Sleepwave going and he was talking about how nowadays for some reason he’d rather drive a few hours to see Alice In Chains but not wanting to drive 15 minutes to see Converge. Kinda confused about Converge though because they haven’t been to Florida in over a decade that I know of, but yea his mind was not (at least at the time) focused on hardcore music
Also there was a kind of depressing part where he was saying how he was in his house literally scraping together change to get McDonald’s while there are two gold records hanging on his living room wall and laughing to himself at the irony

"Disambiguation where the songs were good but they just got too weird and no one would want to listen to it more than once"
He's not wrong about that at least. But yeah, this will be a radio rock album and it will suck.

"this fucking triggers me, what the fuck"
yeah he seems disconnected, as far as i can tell most underoath fans loved their last two albums and still listen to them now
my main take away though was that Tim was responsible for a lot of the experimental and heavy elements of their music. sounds like Spencer and Aaron didn't want to do that again this time around. especially after "Rapture" i'm not super optimistic at this point for the new one

"Those were 2 fucking great singles of an 11 track album"
yikes, no wonder you still have some level of optimism. not sure if you listen to Octane on your Sirius XM radio all day or if you just have some serious nostalgia-blinders on

new album will objectively suck but it'll be nice to hear new underoath after all these years

I remember back when Spencer was talking about why Aaron left and it was because of how different his style was becoming from the rest of the band, and he compared Disambiguation to what Aaron was doing with The Almost to show to disconnection they were having stylistically. Now Underoath has put out two of their most accessible tracks ever and Spencer is claiming to be a more pop-oriented writer and that Disambiguation was too weird.

i mean ya, i'm not gonna not give it a chance because of two duds. personally i wouldn't dig "On My Teeth" very much at all if it wasn't Underoath. but at this point i've replayed the track so many times it has grown on me. no amount of childhood nostalgia for UO can save "Rapture" though
