This, Whisper, Once Was Not, S/T and the latest EP are all worth a jam.

The rest you can leave tbh.

"Isn't that a strange assumption & why only that time period?"

It is a big generalization, I know.

But the mid 90s and onwards was a time when metal and guitar solos kinda died for a while and pop and rock and grunge and nu-metal and whatever took over. There were def some gems scattered over those 10 years I mentioned but they were very rare. Thrash is easily the biggest victim though. It pretty much never returned.

Iniquity, Slugathor, Mortem, Sadistic Intent, Runemagick, etc. all released great stuff in that time period.

Fair enough, like you say there are proven exceptions even by your own admission. On this subject are Nile any good?

And would you guys say DM is/was better post-2010 than in the period bloc is talking about, or not?

Even post 2010 dm doesn't do as much for me. Although I am really liking this new trend of proggy melodic dm like Venenum and Blood Incantation very much.

Never got into Nile either, personally.

In theory (haven’t heard enough of it to tell yet) I like this wonky stuff (Ulcerate/Gorguts - Obscura). What about stuff like that bloc?

Gorguts is fine, but honestly I can't stand Ulcerate or that trend of dissonant dm in general

Nile is pretty not good lol. Ulcerate is a must. Beyond Creation kicks ass too. Gorguts is the best shit you'll ever hear.
