Man I listened to Odal on repeat for hours after I found out my close cousin has passed away in a car crash, it was both of our favorite track on the album. As with insomnium he got me into Agalloch so there will always be a lot of sentimental value attached to their music , kind of a good thing and a bad thing really

got my wife to admit that Bleak is a beautiful song

but i kinda cheated because I started the song at the 3 minute mark (after the growly part was done)

still counts?

show her the rest now, maybe she'll admire the contrast at least haha. what makes that song awesome imo is the journey, not the individual parts (although they're all awesome/beautiful on their own too ofc).

The growl is the most calming part of the album. You should definitely show her from the very beginning.

Idk opeth just never caught me. Not the feels i seek i guess. It sounds like a sad movie with a cliche plot.

cliche plot? don't know where that would be coming from, this one is sputtering from creativity.

All of their albums up to and including Watershed are all really creative yeah.

Yeah. Heritage is also creative imo, but they didn't really know where to go with all that stuff, so things like Famine came around where it feels like they're just fooling around with different themes without any concrete thought behind it.

if this is like a cliche plot, I wonder what is like to sound like an original plot.

Not my favourite Opeth album but there's no denying how well-done this thing is.

The more I listen to this the more it seems that the middle is a little lacking.

Funeral Portrait might be what drops this down a notch but the rest is all classic
