No Heroes is fine where it is, forever relegated to the bargain bin.

I definitely think the og mix is better. Redux makes it sound like just another Converge record

"just another Converge record"

exactly where I stand tbh. the redux was made to sound how it does because the era of the band it was released in - too similar to the adjacent albums. the original prod helps its stance as a much more unique placement in their discography

Def makes sense. I got into converge around the time of, and honestly prob because of, AWL, so I get that my vantage point is probably different. You’re certainly right that this is a more unique mix—I just love the production style they settled into

Exact same for me. I love how powerful the drums sound on all of their newer records. They just don’t pack the same punch on their earlier albums.

I used to prefer the original mix esp back when I was super into sludge, but I agree their modern production is just so much better sounding. Even if it loses a bit of its sludge identity, it's worth it for the drums alone.

I also rly rly like “wolves at my door” for w/e reason, IMO easily an above-average cut

I doubt this rating is correct now, although I do remember the re-recording being a blessing and it became my go-to version.

@robertsona: Yeah, underrated cut. Easily one of my favorite all time Converge songs for the groove and riffs alone.

I really enjoy the gritty, sort of medium fidelity production of the original a little more. But the more polished, sharper and punchier sound of the redux does a good job of revitalizing the album for newer listeners. The t/t is obviously better on the og master, just cause of that rawness.

@Gyro: NO HEROES IS SO GOOD. What are you talking about? First 4 tracks are brutal bangers, some of their heaviest tunes. Bare My Teeth, Orphan, and Grim Heart, Black Rose are some of their top songs in my opinion. I have it at a 4.5 but I might just be a Converge stan.

'Absolutely loving the dirty and gritty sound to this' - comes into its own on the title track. In my opinion that's the only track that didn't benefit from the redux at all.

And agreed, No Heroes absolutely spanks gooch. Love it.

I need to revisit No Heroes. I wasn't very impressed on first couple listens

Maybe it's because No Heroes was my introduction to Converge (and metalcore in general, actually), but it's always had a special place for me.

No Heroes is underrated for sure. It just has the misfortune of being sandwiched between four records that are 4.5-5 tier

I've tried to steer away from using an album's chronological context as a means of rating it. Of course it's no YFM or ATF but No Heroes is stacked with killer songs and is head and shoulders above most -core releases in terms of technical ability and songwriting.

No Heroes is very underappreciated. As Xing said though, it's basically a B- album surrounded by A and A+ albums.
