Why don't we use a measuring stick that most people have actually heard

tbh Downward Spiral is a good choice actually

“if you mean that Trent legitimately wanting to kill himself was the only thing that made his work tolerable, I'm not gonna argue but also am not gonna feel good about it, which I hope you had squared in advance as a checkmate”

lmao pretty much

I’m not gonna say that his rehabilitation tunes don’t have redeemable qualities, his production continued to be strong, but his lyrics and vocals definitely got a lot less inspired

On the metric of Elizabeth Fraser to Daryl Palumbo 2000, 90s Trent Rez checks into Ry Rys Song thru Pretty Lush

Idk Year Zero is a super creative concept album and isn't that after his recovery? (and his best I will die on this hill)

Will listen to more 00s NIN at some point and get back to you, but that's probs accurate from what I remember of With Teeth (yawn)

@ars yes but what I found successful about year zero as a concept was mostly translated sonically rather than lyrically. The lyrics are pretty cringe.

With teeth has some really good songs production-wise (and also some of his worst) but is bad as an album (tho it was made as a collection of singles rather with the intent of being a concept or whatever so it makes sense that that’s how the cookie crumbles)

It also had some of the most memorable marketing and lead up of any album released during my lifetime

And don’t get me wrong I like the concept and the themes and feel they were very thought out… but there is a bit of a disconnect between the concepts and the lyrics used to convey them for me and that’s pretty much my only criticism of that album

Not gonna lie I have a personal attachment to that album for very specific reasons, especially The Warning

I agree that Capital G has dumb lyrics, but they're kinda funny anyway, lampooning US Republicans and all that

God given slaps (and I once again hate the lyrics 😂)
