One song: all my life I wan money and power respect mine or die from led shower
Few songs later: promise that you'll sing about me! Omg my friend died from gun violence so sad
Somehow that passes off as a story to you guys, all I see is a sloppily thrown together Albumoosy tied together by bad skits

Rap Genius can explain that better than I ever could
"In the outro of the previous song, “Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe,” one of Kendrick’s friends asks K to rap. As a flashback, the freestyle is not something present-day Kendrick Lamar truly believes in, but reflects the attitude and beliefs of young people caught up in a corrupt society (or a mad city)"

That would be fine if he did it differently. All he did was romantacize violence then brag about how many dead people he
knows on sing about me, there's no message that ever takes away from the romantacizing of money trees, bitches and guns.
If anything the later songs are him saying how his life made him deep or real ( ie Compton and real), not how or why it was a
bad lifestyle.then cut to a corny religious skit.
The whole album is just a bad excuse for acting like an idiot, you can always just blame your city or country for your own
behavior, it's been said before and is not any more profound this time around.
It's like he's completely unaware that him being spineless and collapsing to peer pressure is the reason he lives in a bad city.
He reflects our generation perfectly, he wants to whine to get attention/ praise for what he's been through, he has no solution
for any problem he whines about though.

My comment wasnt directed to you shark

Album Rating: 3.0
In short, the album is missing a climax that would actually make it the progression in maturity you pretend it is. The thing that
changed in his life was he was randomly saved by a record deal, otherwise there's no reason he gives for the change in his
lifestyle besides he's "tired of running".Basically the message to be taken is murdering for profit is acceptable but it gets hard
after a while, but at least I'm real and from Compton, ya bish. OH and I'm rich now and didn't have a sliver spoon. Swag.
It was all the city's fault not his or his peoples, as if a city is more than a group of people.
If the beginning songs didn't represent Kendrick's modern day views he wouldn't still be making songs like them today, he
does whatever will make him money; can we please stop trying to pretend his is the resurrection of 2pac, he's a bad lil Wayne
imitation at best.

Yes just ignore the fact that you can't carry on a debate defending your album rating for 1 minute yet personally insult anyone
who says this is overrated.
Listen to this if you want, idc, it's irrelevant to hip hop, it's lil Wayne 2.0
Anyone who doesn't idolize Kendrick and isn't blow. Away by pretentious producers like dr dre can read my comments and
realize people idolizing this album have no counters to any of my points. That's enough for me, I'm leaving now

Cool, I hope it's a little more consistent than this, hopefully more akin to Section.80 as well.

I actually kind of agree with Hillary, this is quite overrated in my opinion. The album feels overproduced and overthought, I much prefer Section.80, which felt more personal and raw. Also, Kendrick's not very charismatic so listening to an entire album carried by him is a bit of a chore. Still, he's a great writer and rapper, so this is still a great album, just not one I listen to very often.

"Overthought"
What a bizarre complaint.
|
| |
I don't think this is nearly as good as people say, it's far too inconsistent for me, but k dot has a lot of things going for him here
There's quite a few sweet lines and even verses spread around, though a lot of the times they're ruined by a lot shit hooks and generally not very good beats.
Agree Section.80 is better though, I think the hype that was building around him while making this got a little on his head. I can only imagine how'll be in the next alb if it happens again.

"What a bizarre complaint."
not really, the lyrics feel a bit overworked, taking away any raw feel
