I'd say the mellow sound is due to the production and not being brickwalled to shit like a lot of other (modern) metal albums.

Holy shit you're high, giving this banger a 2. It makes me realize how badly I've been sleeping on this killer band.

this one is a bit easier on the ears than the other ulcerate stuff. more melodic for sure, nice production, kinda stately sounding instead of chaotic. got a big immediate wow factor too

Stoic is a good word I think. All their other albums seem to want to grab and shake you, this one doesn't need to.

Kinda sounds more organic to me, more natural, less forced technicallity
But after this album it will be a good time to revisit their discog

there has never been an ounce of "forced technicality" in ulcerate's music

Well that's probably why I need to go back to their previous stuff, 4 years have passed since 2016

Maybe "forced" isn't the best word, but some of it seems to be there for the sake of sounding chaotic and nothing else. Does a good job with that but also kinda loses my interest sometimes, when there's so many of those sections throughout an album.

check anything from jac's 5s or 4.5s. given some time to ruminate, the phrase that will invariably spring to mind is 'eh... it's lacking pathos'

Guyz this band just doesn't do it for me, maybe I'm losing my dm cred?

Or it's the fact that I said earlier in this thread that they're running a couple of original ideas into the ground? To be fair all dm bands do this but techy death has generally been a one trick pony throughout. I know I'm painting with a broad brush but its fair to say.
