I enjoy P3 and P4 equally, periphery is a band that is close to my heart (y'all made it go the cheesy route) and they helped me through a lot in my darkest times. So yes, I am 5ing this record, doesn't mean I can't critique it, fyi a 5 to me does not necessarily mean the album is "perfect"

"the songs on P3 just don't really grab me while the ones on P4 do. It's like the songs here are more direct or have better writing. P4 just has a certain something P3 is missing imo, while you're right that there are huge similarities."

Well said brother!

The pop stylings never bothered me as much as some of the orchestral elements on P3. They sound so artificial -- and I'm not necessarily talking about their timbre (although for the record, in their documentaries the full synth orchestra sounded better to me than the hybrid when he A-B'd them). It's the placement and arrangement of them that just feels tacked on and videogamey. Especially the orchestral drums.
