Yeah I'm jammin now and I'm not sure I'm lovin it

The beats are super spacious and lush but the hooks kind of just aren't sticking for me?? Also god do I hate that shrill tone in "All You Had to Do Was Stay"

1989 has some skips, but I will say that the bonus tracks are absolutely top tier (far better than the ones here if we're laying it out)
"Lover > 1989"
this is entirely representative of the guff you get from people whose pop literacy starts and ends with this album
"I'm so weary of countless mid pop artists/albums being propped up in the last decade"
this is entirely valid, but also less the fault of the Carly gang and much more squarely down to the kind of joyless vampires who spent too much time venice bitching when they should have been on that virtual angel

I sense spite

This will not go unnoticed!!

Yeah digging into the 2nd half of 1989 and I do quite prefer this. Seems like she starts to double down on the elegance/airiness that imo her voice lends itself to a bit better

lover has possibly some of the worst pop singles of its decade so it's surprising that it wasn't seen as a Reputation level flop tbh

the singles Me! and You Need to Calm Down are indeed two of her absolute worst songs but the album also has some Top Shelf Swift in cuts like Cornelia Street, Cruel Summer, Death By a Thousand Cuts, and the title track.

god I have absolutely no ref for whatever happened on the last few pages and I’m feeling thankful for it. This just kinda bops.

So add me to the list of people who like this album (a lot more than I recall). I’m now awaiting my categorisation as either a “metalhead” or a “hipster” and also judgement for not listening to other contemporary pop artists of this ilk (who may or may not be as worthy of my time - answer is pending),

to be clear I was talking about the psychoanalysis of CRJ’s male fanbase and not the discussion about other pop artists lol

As much as I fucking adore this album, I can totally see where Johnny is coming from when it comes to CRJ/Bjork. I've encountered so many prog/metal fans that won't engage with any mainstream pop or electronic music, but will turn around and say that CRJ or Bjork are "exceptions" for whatever reason. I really wish those listeners would dig deeper and be willing to explore other artists in those respective genres... but unfortunately, I don't think they will

Every Taylor Swift album is like pretty good until the folk ones

I do listen to “Fever” song (2001) and wonder why this doesn’t hit as hard sometimes

This is alright, it definitely became ~overrated after a while

ahh, that’s definitely fair where Bjork is concerned (as much as I love her music!)

I didn’t realise this was a THING with CRJ because I’m a sheltered unaware soul. In fact I wasn’t even aware this was held in such high regard amongst “non-pop lovers” which kinda shows my lack of understanding I guess lol … I suppose this explains the 152 pages here!

"hot take but Lover > 1989"

Insane because I think Lover is one of her very worst! False God is like the only song I enjoy from that one. There's like 2 more on there (title track is like a baby's version of Fade Into You), but everything else is meh or worse.

Reputation is pretty bad but it's also really funny so I like it way more.

Lover is mid as fuck but with some of my fav ts songs so as long as I don't listen to Me! I tolerate it

Reputation is ass tho. Why did Tay sing over a Kanye beat? Why did she appropriate Too Sexy 4 My Shirt? What even is that Ed Sheeren feature?

Taylor Swift is best when she isn't trying too hard (which is unfortunately never these days)
