Barely any metal bands or artists in general make all bangers over a 30-40 year career. More often than not, you get like 2 or 3 good albums

Here are my In Flames takes:
Lunar Strain and Subterranean are great but uneven
This is perfect except for one wack guitar solo in Wayfaerer
Next 3 albums are all various degrees of excellent and various degrees of uneven, with weird track sequencing decisions and Anders' frog vocals. The band was undisciplined even in those days
Reroute and Soundtrack would both be great if the production weren't so awful
Come Clarity and A Sense of Purpose are underrated bangers. The Mirror's Truth EP is great too
Sounds of a Playground Fading is still quite solid
Everything after that is either incompetent, boring, or both (and yes that includes Foregone, I've never heard a more cynical cash grab album in my life)

How are Siren Charms and Battles not more of a cash grab than Foregone lmao

Siren Charms is aimless and bad. Siren Charms is a further mainstream push that didn't work out for them. Foregone is just cynical nostalgia bait; it's a "return to roots" not because they actually believe in it, but because they're desperate to stay relevant. It's still the better album, but I find myself uniquely annoyed by it.

In reality, if they had just kept making albums like Come Clarity, or even Sounds of a Playground Fading, they would have been fine. But they just had to keep pushing in new, shitty directions.

People have the funniest fucking takes with this band sometimes

playground sucks ass just like basically all of their 2000s material
anders' screechy vocals in that era are unbearable and make even come clarity hard to get through sometimes, started with clayman tbh

Playground is so mixed. There is some genuinely interesting and great stuff there but also a lot of the most mediocre and bland stuff this band has put out. I may agree if they stuck to the interesting parts of Playgrounds but I am happy with the direction that Foregone will hopefully take them.

Fair enough Ocean, good point
Playground was the start of the insane downfall. It became painfully obvious how important Jesper was for the band on that album.

Come Clarity is their best post Clayman, unfortunately it’s not a very high bar to clear

Moonshield still goes. Wayfarer is cool.
(Remains) solid mellowdeath and I'm in sympathetic mood (for now)

Band has one of the highest variances in quality and style so there's bound to be takes galore
It was also, from my experience and I'm sure many others', one of the most influential gateway bands into extreme music in the early 2000s, so there's bound to be a lot of nostalgia for the early stuff and a lot of angst about whatever the hell it is that happened to this britney spears band later in their career
