The tastes here don't align much with mine anymore. The fact that this is a 3.3 is wild.

"best A7X"
That's pretty bold lol. For me, it's either 4th or 5th (this and Nightmare switch places quite often)
Honestly though, I'll probably keep it at 4th

I just really really admire that they swung for the fences with this when it would’ve been infinitely easier (and more profitable) to shit out another HttK.
And it’s not just the effort or intent or whatever, if some no name band had put this out it still would’ve been my aoty from last year.

Yeah, the fact that such a mainstream metal band (no shade meant by that, you already know I love these guys) put out something so experimental and proggy in their later years is really respectable. Meanwhile, so many of their contemporaries keep shitting out the same album over and over
Just jammed this in full for the first time in about 6-7 months, and it still holds up very well. G/O/D is such a fun trilogy of songs

There really isn't much competition in their album art department when they re-did the Waking the Fallen cover for two more albums (even when they zoomed it in HTTK's cover is still the exact same), and it's not like the original was any special either when it was just their band name/mascot/album title on a solid color background, no special designs or anything.

"when they re-did the Waking the Fallen cover for two more albums"
It still blows my mind that they didn't use the original artwork for the Waking the Fallen sleeve (the artwork with the woman lifting her skeletal hand)... so much better than the main cover. Same goes for the HTTK single cover vs. the lazy album cover

I mean honestly it’s one of my favorite cover arts ever. Everything about it is amazing. It takes all of the cliches the band is known for and puts a messy art house flavor to it.

This is the best album they ever released by a pretty decent margin

That being said, this album actually got me over the hump with Shadows’ voice and I actually listen to their older stuff now.

Man, that setlist is great. Remenissions and Second Heartbeat seem like an absolute treat live. Hope to see these guys live one day.

They’re incredible live, but they’re never playing that set again. Huge fucking bummer. As much as I love this record, that’s a show I would’ve killed to see.
A7X in a club playing just the classics? jfc
