It's a big old thread and I've missed most of it. I mean, it's not an accurate review, but it sure is hilarious

Yeah, i get the idea, but there's a bit much focus on Autechre and maths. It really does pay off in the end though

Turning fifteen is truly an exciting time for children, both to learn how to bake themselves bread and to receive their own version of Daddy's new mittens. Or, as the kids in "Miss Marple's Deadly Sisters" say in that immortal bit, "It was our birthday, of course!" We've all been there. Now it's the turn of the middle-aged, haughty men to have the cake and eat it too!

to put this in another perspective, i think most people here know i am a dm connoisseur at this point -> i have a giant total of 4 bands that have 3 3.0+ rated albums out of all the death metal I've heard -> death, immolation, atheist, and these guys

Solid picks. Keep up the good work. What don't you like about this one? (I'm not jumping on the defense brigade, this is another release kinda like Blood Incantation's latest where I can't tell what it does differently that seems to attract the masses)
|
| |
that makes sense with blood incantation (which i do love) but not so much this one

I mean, I get that there's a few more melody lines here and there compared to their old stuff, but it's a very familiar kick for me so far. I'm definitely due a few more listens to be fair
|
| |
i guess i might also be misunderstanding what you mean
this isn't really attracting any 'masses' but ulcerate are pretty much a sput band in 2020
|
| |
I thought the two blood incantation albums were different
|
| |
i have noticed most albums are different in general
but i can understand how the blood incantation records might just seem more like standard dm to some ears
|
| |
I meant different to a very noticeable degree. Obviously

Aight, I'll set it out a bit more clearly. I'm a tired boi.
I listen to a fair bit of dm myself, and it's hard not to call it a saturated genre. Although I have pretty clear personal preferences for what I want to hear and can recognise when something sounds new for the genre as a whole, I struggle to figure out what it is that elevates certain albums into more widespread popularity when they don't carry some kind of fundamental difference/development to the genre.
Blood Incantation's Hidden History... was a big step for them, sure, but I don't see why it brought so many non-dm fans into the picture. Ulcerate are obv great and nusputcore, but the amount of votes in comparison to how long it's been out it is pretty nuts compared to their other releases. Maybe it's just a slowly building popularity I didn't really see coming (and it's well-deserved), but again I can't pinpoint what about this album in particular might draw
in somebody that isn't a big fan of dm (or just ulcerate) already
In short, I'm overthinking this and need to sleep.

For a metal band, they sound very mellow. I guess it's how these guys like to be, but I like their sound a lot more these days. So, in summation, I do like these Blood Incantation albums a lot. They aren't a modern metal band, but they are a good modern metal band. As long as you don't try to force it, they can be great. I'll probably buy the rest of the albums when I'm a little older and a bit more sensitive.
