He's generally seen as a bit of a joke by most philosophers due to his uninformed base level takes and just awful reasoning skills.
His admission that he had only read The communist manifesto in preparation for his debate with Zizek was embarrassing. The communist manifesto can be read in one sitting and is not really a work of philosophy. Also he shows a stunning lack of understanding regarding post modernism and it's literature but talks about it as if he's filled in (pretty sure he's said some heinous things about Foucault but also admitted to never reading him)
Generally I dislike him because he falls into the arrogant self-assured but ignorant crowd with Shapiro and other online commentators. He should have stayed in his lane(psychology) without trying to be a philosopher, or at least actually enganged with the philosophy he derides if he wants to be an actual philosopher

"His admission that he had only read The communist manifesto in preparation for his debate with Zizek was embarrassing"
that whole speech was a top-10 internet moment of that year ngl

I realise that "should have stayed in his lane" comes across dickish in retrospect, I just meant that he should be more aware of where his skills lie and what he is ignorant of.

Tbh I don't like all of JP and I couldn't care less about his views on communism/capitlism and when he starts going into near pseudo philosophy. He's no where near as abrasive and arrogant as Ben Shapiro too.
But I think he offers more than just his points on post modernism. His general advice on individual responsibility is spot on and I think everyone can take value and get behind stuff like that.
But I like Zizek even less. He's so non-sensical with how he makes a point and it feels like he talks so much without really saying anything of real value.

His stuff on individual responsibility has always just seemed like regurgitated platitudes to me, but fair enough.
And yeh I don't like zizek either, he can't stay on track or make coherent points

It might be but it never hurts to hear it again as powerfully or clearly as JP puts it.
I don't think JP deserves to be lumped with Shapiro as he's such a notch above him.
Shapiro annoys the shit out of me as his whole mantra seems to be about winning arguments through 'logic' and just seems to enjoy the sound of his voice too much. Like i still don't know what the man stands for other than some kind of soft conservatism. At least you know what JP stands for, even if some is a little questionable
