i can see where you're coming from rowan. this and lateralus had a huge influence on my taste when i was younger though so i still love em even though they truly are a bit pretentious (one of the few occasions in music where i think that word can be used)

And they don't have passion here? Dude if The Pot and the title track isn't passion I don't know what is.

I actually really like most of this (the title track is the most emotional Tool song since Third Eye) it's just the interludes that are pretentious wank
Lateralus on the other hand is just so "oh look at us we're mystical and spiritual and enlightened wake up sheeple" it grates on my nerves to no end despite the technical brilliance on the music
I miss good old LA-hating, screamy Maynard so much

Every Tool record has something to like, for me this is their most surreal album and really easy to drift into.
Jambi is fucking incredible though, man I love that song.

"the pot is a fucking weed track"
I...I sincerely hope you're not serious art.
And The Pot isn't supposed to be that Rowbro. It's got some of their best instrumental performances and one of my personal favorite Maynard performances.

I'm not disagreeing
just like Lateralus it's instrumentally and technically superb
but it's still doesn't have that passion which returns me to my original point. I'll take Sober over Lateralus t/t any day

also art's right, The Pot is quite literally a weed track in every sense of the word

Well there's no denying that they had lots of passion in those days, but I'm just saying I don't think they lost it. It's just placed differently. I understand how the lyrics on Lateralus could be annoying but I think Maynard meant well. A lot of lines actually helped me out in some ways. I don't think he wrote them to shove spiritual shit down our throats. I just think he wented to write songs to inspire to wanna, you know, "let go," of any grudges or hardships we have and let bygones be bygones. Been listening to that album for many years, so I've had lots of time to study it haha to each his own though.

Guess we gotta agree to disagree on that one
I've been listening to Lateralus for years too bud so I'm not exactly new to what he's trying to communicate wit it I just don't agree
The road to preaching is paved with good intentions

And it's not literally about weed, which is why I said that. It's about hypocrisy, on both sides of any argument. Pot is used as a metaphor to bring that point home. I just think it's dumb to call it a "weed track." The point of the song is that everyone is a hypocrite at some point.
