I hate when people say this one “didn’t age well”, it didn’t age to begin with - it’s a sappy 90s alt rock album which appealed to many BECAUSE it’s a sappy 90s alt rock album gtfo

somehow implying that sappy 90s alt rock lies outside the age equation

Because it’s silly to expect a 90s album to sound like it didn’t come from the 90s

why does it not sound as good as all the good 90s albums that came from the 90s then

We’re probably talking about two different things - my point is that “being dated” is a meme argument. Like the first three massive attack albums sound dated as hell, but it doesn’t reflect the quality of the actual songs themselves. On the other hand, if you were to say this album sucks because the lyrics suck, then it would follow through because that would reflect the actual songwriting.

the first three massive attack albums sound dated as hell in that trip-hop is of the 90s
this sounds dated as hell in that maudlin altnasap is of the 90s
guess which genre aged better

the rock one, because electronic dance music advanced rapidly and rock is mostly stagnant.

Who cares if something that was of its time now sounds dated if it sounds GOOD

If you're asking whether 90s Massive is more listenable or The Bends, I'm gonna say 90s Massive every time

Agreed 90s massive but lots of trip hop doesn’t sound very dated at all tbh, most of the genre influences are more relevant than ever now

So in other words, the “age” of an album isn’t a substantive enough factor to judge its quality
