Been really listening to this the past few weeks and while I knew it was great the first time I listened to it, having a much better appreciation of electronic music now and understanding a bit better the amount of influence and gravitas this has in the context of all the electronic that's come after unlocked this for me. Awesome, awesome album

Yep a classic.

In terms of a revelation at the time of its release though it doesn’t come close to Blue Lines. That thing doesn’t compare to anything else that has come out since.

Safe From Harm

Unfinished Sympathy

Hymn of the Big Wheel

3 finer songs you’re unlikely to find on anything.

Unfinished Sympathy is a genuine contender for the greatest song of all time, it’s unarguable.

When Blue Lines was released there was nothing else like it, off the top of my head the only thing that could compare was Soul II Soul - Keep on Movin

Then you had this collective from Bristol delivering one of the most jaw dropping songs of all time and an album that massively moved things forward.

Mezzanine is a darker, sinister more ‘complete’ album and I do prefer it to Blue Lines but it comes nowhere near to the staggering effect of Blue Lines.

It’s a bit of a Nevermind/In Utero scenario.

I’d rate the t/t above it but it’s definitely top 5 on the album and a classic

That deep, rumbling bass on Angel is so menacing bump to 4.8
