I had the complete opposite experience and always considered this a gentler entry point. As always tho, it depends on where you started from. This isn't as abrasive and has more post-rock influences. If you're not as used to drawn out ambience but listen to more extreme forms of music already, then I could see the opposite being true.

yeah this was third for me after Through Silver in Blood and The Word as Law and this one had the most appeal for me as well at least initially probably still

It's great see that ISIS have become more relevant and discussed more since Neurosis dropped the new one.
ISIS, these guys and Cult of Luna and Rosetta are probably my top 4 post metal groups. But the genre is relatively consistent in quality with the majority of the bands doing that style.
