acc started a huge playlist to work out my top 100, and Brainy is one of the four (lol make that three) National songs I haven't deleted from it yet

returned to 'er after a prolonged absence and found so many nuances and astonishing riffs I'd missed the first time: Polvo reign supreme

i recently emerged from a biennial pilgrimmage to Mark Prindle's sanctuary of the phallus, where he claims much the same; think it's time to deep dive back in (esp to Exploded Drawing, never gave that enough time)

completely different bands but this is sputnikmusic and so i will make a statement I don't even think I necessarily agree with

Polvo >

This is a silly comparison and shouldn't be indulged and I realistically prefer the National en masse
but Time Isn't On My Side is almost certainly better than any National song and I look forward to counter-arguments

honestly my favourite polvo song and thus I have to agree that objectively it is better than every national song put together

Imagine being Aaron Dessner and knowing that every beautiful sophisticated well studied tasteful string embellishment you've ever written will forever be dust in the wind compared to that fucking miracle of dumbass proto-chiptune unison that the bois got some five year old to play so you could hear the melody under the million layers of battery acid that those guitars will not stop vomiting into your speakers
Probably the greatest artistic decision since the last line in Chinatown

I’m really enjoying this record after initially hating the band, but none of the tracks really blow me away, unfortunately.

@Lich: they’re not really a ‘blow you away’ sort of band, at least not at first. Understatement personified. Definitely worth the time investment getting into them.

Polvo is fucking sick. The guitars on all their stuff is NUTSS. My Kimono is probably one of my favorite pieces of music, period.

Will check this Polvo band out. Hopefully they're more exciting than these sad clowns
