Yeah ShadowsFallen,I think that your right about them them taking the whole"we wanna make music like our idols" to heart a little too much.

Im sorry about coming across fanboyish and making myself look pretty poor in the process earlier on here, although steerpike pisses me off but that's besides the point.I dont agree with the score you gave the album but at the same time,SF's review is still very, very well-written and even though I dont totally agree with it,you still have my respect.

I just picked up THE ABSENCE album "From Your Grave" and it slays big time, really good florida melodic death.

That's alright, I've had many experiences where I blow up initially and regret it later.

The Absence is a pretty cool band.

As far as Florida metal goes, Death takes the cake. :D

I gave this album yet another chance, and it just doesn't have any effect on me at all.

Steerpike,

My use of the word "bias" was used properly, and the reason I used it is because after viewing ShadowsFallen profile and other reviews,it's quite clear he's fond of the harder edge stuff.People that tend to listen to Black and Death metal carry a sort of "elitist" attitude around with them that if something has more than 2 fans or isnt extremely brutal that it somehow isn't metal. Now Im not saying this is the case with ShadowsFallen, but 99% of the negative responses I've seen so far to this album have come from people that listen to bands like Mayhem and other various corpse-paint laden acts.

Those events that were 5 yrs ago I was refferring to(Matthew Spephard murder, that African dude who got shot by the cops in the city and im not going to bother mentioning his name because I can say it but aint gonna try spellin it,Andrea Yates drowning her children, etc)nothing to do with anything in the 80s.I was using past events in our society and past metal acts to make an example for the point I was trying to make about what Trivium is currently doing.

And no,not every band should use politically motivated lyrics, but too many bands out there are responsible for taking away from the credibility of metal by using evil lyrics, gimmicky makeup and/or outfits. One might say the same for Trivium however, since everyone claims they are ripping their music and style off of metallica, which aside from the style part, has yet to be actually proven with valid evidence.

Yes,the riffing is pieced together very much like metallica back in the day,and they need to break away from the predictability of the hooks. But,as far as actual music goes, this is really just a thrashier version of ascendancy,it isnt noticeable right away but if you listen more intently you can tell this is the same band even you if muted the vocals out.

Something tells me you haven't been as well educated in Florida metal as you could be. ;) Although Death is excellent.

You caught me. I don't listen to too many bands from Florida, but Death happens to be one of my favorite metal bands.

Death is above just about every other Florida metal band from that era. I like them a lot. There's plenty more where they came from, though. Florida is America's metal hotspot.

Sweden still owns every country in the world at producing great metal bands. Arch Enemy, In Flames, Opeth, Dark Tranquillty, At The Gates, Hypocrisy.............the list goes on..........

What, how piss poor this album is?

I think metal is a tossup between...Finland and Sweden. Occasionally Germany can get thrown in there for good measure.

Hmmm, I think that Sweden is producing alot of great musicians that know their instruments well ,but alot of the bands that have potential to break big within the metal community are overlooked.

I think the language barrier is one of the issues, and that some people are just closeminded to anything that isn't "American Made".An example of this is when I went to Sounds of the Underground two years ago.Opeth was playing their set, incredible as always, and then they started talking after a song or two was played. Now, Opeth are known as being some of the most polite and well spoken metal dudes out there, but as soon as they said they were from Sweden of course a couple fatass's in the crowd with beer guts and an Anthrax or Slayer shirt on will start yelling all kinds of obscenities and insults at the band they were just rocking out to a few seconds earlier.

I've never seen this happen at a club show,as usually everybody there is on the same page as far as what bands they like, but at festival settings like Ozzfest and SOTU I think alot of the people that are there to see the more established, american bands, especially the ones that have been around for ages, are rather closeminded and ignorant.

Just a random thought there, now back to the subject at hand.

Umm no. When they said they were from Sweden at Gigantour the crowd didn't care, besides some of the biggeset acts are from over seas. In Flames, Dragonforce, Behemoth, Black Sabbath, Arch Enemy, Emperor, Necrophagist. The list goes on.

Maybe in the last yr or so things have changed abit(I've only been to SOTU this year)since metal is alot bigger now than it was 2 yrs ago.

Join the club. I do not suffer foolish behavior. At all.

People that tend to listen to Black and Death metal carry a sort of "elitist" attitude around with them that if something has more than 2 fans or isnt extremely brutal that it somehow isn't metal.

Now, one of the reasons I've been verbally eviscerating you is because of statements like this. Obnoxious sweeping stereotypes and generalizations. Do you even listen to yourself talk?

Those events that were 5 yrs ago I was refferring to(Matthew Spephard murder, that African dude who got shot by the cops in the city and im not going to bother mentioning his name because I can say it but aint gonna try spellin it,Andrea Yates drowning her children, etc)nothing to do with anything in the 80s.

Thanks for clarifying.
