The first few times I heard this it didn't really click. Now that I have relistened I will bump this up from my original score of 3. I still think that the first two albums are stronger however.

Polar = Wrongdoers > Redeemer > O'God > etc for me

Reading the first few pages of this review is really jarring. Clearly no one understood this band or made stupid assumptions with barely a cursory listen.

Holy shit, those comments

Yea Norma Jean used to get a lot of shit for some reason but now everyone loves them

I was always under the impression that they were well loved back when this album dropped
|
| |
Maybe in some circles but I recall people calling them Botch ripoffs all the way up until Wrongdoers dropped. Also saw some comments claiming that Anthem of the Angry Brides ripped off Dillinger, which makes no sense to me

They were Botch rip offs but they also made enjoyable music and far surpassed Botch in terms of their reach, so most people are probably unaware of the comparison. I'm thinking of when all of the scenie weenie kids were into them when I said well loved.

Yea those kids had probably never even heard of Botch, I myself hadn’t heard of them until I saw some people talking about them in Norma Jean comments

A Small Spark vs. a Great Forest [2]
That song single-handedly made me a Norma fan
|
| |
I love how they seamlessly blended their metalcore sound with a healthy dose of old-school post-hardcore. There are parts that remind me of Drive Like Jehu
