The last 3 alone are worth the price of admission though. Love those songs.

The entire back half after the interlude is something else. Rivals the best of AWLWLB. Might not overtake it but time will tell.

I want to get behind the fanboys on this one but fuck, I just can't help but feel they just pushed this one out. I mean there are some bangers on here but it's surrounded by a little too much same old, same old. And is it just me or do their slower, doomier tunes feel just downright lazy/ filler etc?

I think Wizard hits the nail on the head here I am afraid. Did like the tracks bookending the record in particular.

More like mildly-appreciative-if-not-entirely-blown-away-sayers, but yes our hegemony is being rapidly consolidated.

The problem with being a band of this caliber is if you just put out a 30 minute record of absolute bangers people are like “DIDNT REINVENT THE WHEEL COMPLETELY, IS MID”
I enjoy Converge when they’re surprising me too (which is funny because this record surprised me in the way that its just straight up bangers and not too much experimentation) but I don't really expect them to surprise me this deep into their career. I am just here for the killer presentation of what this is.
tl;dr you will enjoy this much more if you stop expecting your favorite bands to push the envelope every single time they drop something. NO SLOW BURNERS, NO WEIRD SHIT , bro the last like 8 LPs did that, go listen to that.

Gotta love how this dropped right before Valentines Day. How romantic.

And even more so than that, the last LP is 100% all slow burn, this is basically the perfect companion piece to that. All blistering rippers.
Not to mention also they said they wrote a shitload of songs during the writing for this record, a 30 minute record is unusual for these guys and I wouldn’t be surprised if we got an EP or even another LP within the next year or two

I spoke too soon perhaps. I can understand were you are coming from, perhaps my expectations are unrealistic. That being said, even if judged purely on the straightforward banger-scale I still think this record falls short (compared to their earlier output). Further, I will still insist on it lacking more slow burners and weird shit. Sorry.

Nah album is damn near perfect this is one of those special records

"a little too much same old, same old"
That's what makes Converge so good, they don't switch it up so much that they lose their core sound. Name another band that has been this consistent so long in their career.
