Honestly I just don't know how I'm supposed to read statements like "it is a mockery of good taste and deserves nothing" and not envision some guy on an Ivory tower looking at every single fan going to their shows, wearing their merchandise, whatever, and thinking he's better than them.
I'd probably not like that type of writing even if I didn't like them/feel judged myself, I feel like that type of writing is uncomfortable and something I strive to avoid in my own reviews (under normal circumstances) but ehhh

I once again gotta ask:
Deafheaven Hawks son or Black Country New Road Venin daughter
When it comes to reviews/critiques, subjectivity is implied and it is frankly ridiculous to ever earnestly argue that anyone is doing anything else

yeah i think it's just like i wouldn't even put a line like that in, for an example of a group I'm not hot on, an AJR review, i have friends who like them and i don't really wanna insult them for that
now if they were tom macdonald fans or smth...fair game

"its honestly just a pleasant listen, i feel like bcnr could have changed their name to separate from the expectations of another afut but i am happy i enjoy an album from them"
The interesting thing is if I try to imagine someone like Tyler (who's timbre and singing style to me is more similar to Isaac's than May or Georgia) singing on anything from AFUT, it wouldnt seem out of place on this album tbh. Vice versa, Isaac on something like Nancy would fit snugly on AFUT. To my ears it's the same band at its core
I will say though that I didn't realize how huge Isaac's guitar parts were in AFUT until I revisited it recently. That's one of the most noticeable things missing from this album compositionally

fair enough lol, sometimes vocal timbres just don't hit right for me i'm extremely picky and weird with vocals it took me a while to get into some stuff because the vocals were a filter, believe it or not that was something i dealt with when getting into Opeth of all bands, I thought Mikael's singing was too "normal" but eventually it hit me esp on Damnation.
so i s'pose i just need to keep trying with isaac but part of me thinks that'll just be a peter steele situation for me

Whats your opinion on Bob Dylans voice? I think hes a good example of someone whos clearly not that fit to sing but makes good enough songs to make up for that

i like him but i also sometimes laugh because at times he'll sound like the Wildflower character on Tom Grossi's youtube (I wanna hear a Wildflower cover of a track off Blonde on Blonde) but he's an EXCELLENT storyteller so it makes up for that little goofy quirk that cracks me up

Yeah, i can agree on that! I dont get the overwhelmingly bad reception Isaacs voice gets but his way of storytelling is way more whimsical than Dylan (bad comparison i know) but one i made because none of them has what is considered a pleasant or beautiful voice. But i ofc respect that people dont like it too

i think for me it's just a voice that kind of grates on me especially on those lower notes where I have to focus in just to hear what he's singing lol i liked the isaac stuff best when i pretended the voice was just another instrument rather than the centerpiece
strange comp but i feel like i'd rather take him like i would antti boman of demilich, where the vocals are just another instrument

If an artist that uses his voice as an instrument you should check Johny Martyn. I feel like he gradually started to treat and use his voice as an instrument throughout his career
