Alright yall, I did another run through V1 and again just found it a slog to get through. Its not 'bad', it is just far too long with not enough highlights to warrant much return. So many of the best moments of it also came across as watered-down renditions of things that have been done better by other bands.
Put on V2 directly after and found it more enjoyable right off the bat. Pretty surprised that this is such a hot take to people. V1 has officially worn out my patience and I think yall are just gaslighting me at this point.

tbh I love V1 but I do agree that cutting maybe 15-20 minutes off it would've made it better lmao

only gaslighting happening there is you gaslighting yourself that Vaxis II is good

Calling V1 too long is fine, I get that, it's definitely bloated, but then calling 2 better is something i can't abide

Please to announce I started this and it's indeed possibly their best since the first 3 albums. The best in like 20 years??? What jumpstarted their passion? This is insane. I've been mourning them since that 2015 album that I couldn't stomach and so had the worst expectations.
Blind Side Sonny into the track afterwards is bonkers.

I think rise naianasha may be the best song from the first two vaxis albums personally. I also think I enjoy vaxis 2 better than the first. Both have an obscene amount of unenjoyable filler

Calling it now this is going to peak Johnny's BNM cringe list at the end of the year

Couple of these songs are starting to wear on me. Some are still growing better and better. Still think the same thing from day 1 that its their 6th best album.

I'm kind of surprised he doesn't like it more, tbh. I mean it's not mind blowing, but still. For me personally, it doesn't slot in super high, prob goes like this for me:
SSTB > IKSSE > FFTEOM > NWFT > Ascension > Vaxis 1 > this > YOTBR = Descension > TCBTS > Vaxis 2

There's something about the "atmosphere" and feel of Vaxis 1 that I don't think either of the follow up albums has captured quite as well. Yeah it's long but it just feels extremely moody and dramatic. V2 and V3 are more fun, boppy listens (which is great in it's own right!)
There's not a single bad Coheed album though, let me get that out there. Even YOTBR and TCBTS are good listens in my opinion.

I'm with you on atmosphere.
V1's consistency definitely allows its exploding prison planet (lol) to feel fully lived in and the aesthetic consistency goes a long way towards that. I do think the same effect could be achieved with a (slightly shorter) runtime, but that's definitely a shining quality of it. V2 is really quite all over the place and feels like the most unorganized album of theirs other than TCBTS (but I still like it lol)

V1 has a few tracks I don't like after the opening highs, most of the tracks haven't clicked even 7 years after release. V2 was half great, half actually bad, but has a distinct sound that stands apart from their other records. I can appreciate that so late in their career.
This one has been marinating for a week and I'm still liking it more with every listen.
Honestly the weakest link is One Last Miracle and even that's grown on me.
Best constructed Coheed album in a long time in terms of track placement, variety and pacing.

Catchy album. Immediate as a big fan of their earlier material this is nice addition

Yes it grew on me, but to my ears it was the weakest/most forgettable on the first few listens.
It's a solid album track, maybe because the verses are very reminiscent of YOTBR era (particularly 'Hush') it didn't grab me. The chorus is too catchy though.
