That part strikes me as more of an homage
I do think they’re sitting behind their influences a bit more on this record, rather than in front of them. Album as a whole feels slightly hurried to me, though I do enjoy it i think they’re going to work out the kinks in their live set on the tour and greatly improve on this creative turn on the subsequent album
Liked this more than the new tomb mold record but imo Horrendous are easily at the top of the prog pile right now

Enjoyable overall but the genre "blend" is very stark in a way that sounds inorganic compared to their first two. Feels like they're leaning heavily into the "metal band with eclectic influences" shtick, so the different elements don't sound all that well integrated or extraordinary on their own
