so i think i came to a conclusion here. seems like this album is much less emotionally punchy at a surface level. the songs are more simplistic and reserved
and i think that's kind of like how life gets. i waited for a track like river to just punch me in the balls at warp speed, but that's not what this album represents
when you're young, everything feels significant. there are less river moments when you settle into the routine of life in your 30s and 40s. this album feels like the spiritual successor to its predecessor - less volatile, more in tune with what it is, and occasionally with some longing for the excitement of a past life
pretty stunning work regardless
