"sure, i'm making some assumptions here, but the crux of the point is that the emotional core of their music is completely gone and has been for 20 years. their music now sounds completely and totally bereft of emotion and they replaced that with this prog-lite sound. that's a bummer to me. you're coming across kinda poorly here champ. tone it down some. take a step back, take a breather, think things through a bit more."

you don't have to patronize me buddy, im perfectly aware of how i come across. also the way you worded it here is way better and i would have had no problem with it if you had worded it like this from the start.

Imagine thinking Katatonia is bereft of emotion.

Alright shut the fuck up about that shit. First listen, lovin the energy on this and Jonas seems to be doin some newer stuff with the vocals (maybe expanding range a bit??). All in all, seems to be a good focus on dynamism and the more angular guitar work and tempo is cool.

Its okay, too many songs, maybe its my mood. Only Author stood out for me and overall I felt the back half better.

Anyone who has said this band has phoned it in, musically and emotionally, hasn’t listened to the fall of hearts album. That was pure creativity, songsmithing, and emotion. Perfection actually. This album…it’s good but not great. But not phoned in.

Last album of theirs I can put on and feel properly engaged by from front to back is Dead End Kings. I can't pinpoint what changed for me on Fall of Hearts (especially since it seems well liked generally) but that's where my interest started to waver and then moreso with City Burials and this isn't doing anything to grab me back unfortunately.

Same PizzaBear. Fall of Hearts grew on me a ton and I think it's a really great record, but there was something about it that just didn't hit the same way DEK did. DEK is near perfect in my eyes, and the atmosphere on that record is incredible.

I've been really struggling to get into their post death/doom stuff, but the example track here is pretty cool
