I think his bass drum is tuned too closely to his snare or vice versa; there’s very little aural separation between the two making the blasts sound off to me

There has indeed, I don't see that as a damning criticism at all. When you're filtering by such a short timeframe and 'exploring' without being truly selective, then results will likely be quite variable. All about the journey. If I was to go back and check my last 50/100/whatever ratings from year's gone by, then the average would (understandably) be much higher. More choice and thus an increased opportunity for careful selection usually yields greater results.
