don't feel the cohesion - Öngyilkos is like the killer non-album single released as a bonus track but here placed at the start for reasons, otherwise the real album doesn't start till Hajnal
would accept Donut/Swindon as a stronger 1-2 tbh

Tbh I can see how it could maybe lend the album a sense of like holding off on that manicpanic vsnares good good cuz it is a lot more melody-focused and direct than he usually is but it's never bugged me personally, feels like a flex putting it where it is tho idk maybe it would work better later in the album

This shit fucking whips
Also Ongyilkos is really good imo even if it -might- make sense as a way to give the album a calm and less chaotic closure, even if the swagger of itself is un-fucking-stoppable and still works as a great 1-2 imo.

Somewhere I read that Gloomy Sunday has the reputation of being the most often covered song ever, so not a weak material to start with. Still, what Aaron did was magic, should not be underestimated. Btw, it's funny that the title of the album contains a typo here, so instead of reading "born under the wrong star" as it should, it reads "a wrong star-animal was born".

^ running across fields and shit
I’m just noticing this review is humongous and an absolute chore to read through, despite how informative it can be (definitely gets too bogged down in history lessons etc.) Namedropping Gorecki by Lamb (in amongst a zillion other things) neaaaaarly makes up for this by itself tho. Based song.
Anyway, this is still mostly a blast but definitely benefited from that early novelty factor of ‘whoa, what the hell is this?’ that threatened to overwhelm me during those initial inspections

Breakbeat in general is defined by a very fast beat with a lot of variety, and a slower moving backdrop chord progression or melody to provide a contrast for the ultra fast beat. Most of the variety and innovation in the genre comes for making the beat faster, more varied, more unusual, etc. Similarly, hardcore is essentially sped up electronica with an aggressive sound. Think of Amon Tobin as a good example of a hardcore artist.

Breakcore owns and I should really continue a deep dive
IK its the most massive umbrella term but I hope I can one day understand electronic music as a whole a bit more

ngl i'm a little wounded you didn't see through me there zak

@dedes: I feel like breakcore is used interchangably with atmospheric dnb/jungle these days just like an umbrella term for anything that uses an amen/think break, whereas stuff like Venetian Snares pumped out is the OG definition.
