alien is a good comparison point in the sense that both of these bands have more or less traded the entirety of their old fanbase for a new one lmao. i think northlane did it more gradually though, even with the drastic vocalist change, they still tried to be a progcore adjacent band for two albums before hopping into industrialism, where thornhill flipped their script immediately between albums 1 and 2

Northlane were also at a low point both critically and commercially. They talk about it in the Alien documentary they did but Alien was pretty much a last ditch effort to keep the band alive.
Not only that I think a bunch of Northlane's previous fans stuck around whereas here, I knew a lot of people who have just completely jumped ship.

Which frankly, I think is kind of a shame to leave after one miss. Even if its obvious Thornhill have no intention of going back to Butterfly/TDP sound. And to be honest, the singles for this new record have me way more hyped for that than this.

yeah saw that in the doc too about alien, makes sense as surprise dropping mesmer was such a bad bad bad bad idea for northlane
and sorta agreed in a way ish. im not really invested in this band anymore but absolutely encourage big shifts in sound even right out of the gate on paper since thats big picture what yields the most interesting careers. this is ultimately the developmental effects of myself hearing achtung baby for the first time at 12 years old but in my defense that is one of the greatest sonic pivots of all time

The Matt Bellamy comparisions are justified, but he sounds a bit more like Matt Bellamy singing like Chino which is of course very nice, and his screams are mostly Chino like too

Speaking of, looks like we're getting a new song here soon. That teaser is...interesting...

I'm curious of the thematic elements of this new album, it seems to focus a lot on a subtle medicinal theme, like antibodies/drugs?

I'm new to this band but based on the review... I started with this album after listening to the newest singles and really enjoying them.
Hellfire Club is one of the better openers I've heard in awhile along with being a fantastic song on its own.

their recent singles are incredible yeah
