"i think it’s blandness is meant to be tongue in cheek"

Finale and Hurts To Love definitely have similar ideas, but for me they both work exceptionally well. Tongue-in-cheek and endearing pretty much nails the vibe, but I could see how some may go with "cloying" instead. I was always look forward to both as the album heads towards the end, and I keep changing my mind as to which is better.

Lmao word
Gotta say, few things feel better than culling bloatsack albums like this down to 2~3 songs and getting the absolute best of them in under quarter of an hr. Works wonders for this and the new Big Thief - both obvs have plenty of duds to chop, but turning up the heat and mowing down the pretty-good tracks too is as rewarding as it is probably unfair

Been finally getting around to this one over the last week. I'm digging it a ton and as Sowing said on the first page it's rejuvenating my love for this group and giving me a newfound appreciation for what they do. "Superstar" in particular is spellbinding, as is the entirety of disc 4.
The experience reminds me a lot of what Sleeping At Last is doing with his Atlas series, which I've been also reliving lately, so that may have something to do with why this is working such magic for me.

It's my favourite of the year so far; it just feels magical to me and the spell hasn't come close to breaking yet.

It gets richer the more I hear it. I can absolutely see it as top 5 by year's end. It's so intricate and varied once you catch all of its subtleties. And the production is immaculate.

Might sound weird, but I pretty much equally like all five Beach House albums that I've heard, with Depression Cherry being last tho. This one might be one of the best, have to give it more listens.
Certainly has some of their best songs. The whole first EP, Runaway, New Romance, Sunset, Only You Know, The Bells, Hurts to Love, Many Nights, and Modern Love Stories are wonderful.

Hard agree, I've been trying to figure out ranking the different albums, but they're all so wonderful (albeit with DC having a couple of clear duds in there).
