Nirvana unplugged and Oasis doing an acoustic Whatever on MTVs Most Wanted was when it peaked.

You putting Oasis over AiC is insanity and you must go lie down to give your brain more blood.

What do people like about this album? Genuinely?
I can’t think of a single enjoyable quality of this. The ingredients are good - heavy guitar riffs, depressing lyrics about drugs, dark, ominous atmosphere etc… but the end product is boring. None of the riffs are memorable or interesting. And this is probably just a me thing but I’ve never connected with the vocals. The album is incredibly, incredibly formulaic. Almost every track has the exact same song structure, subject matter and sonic components. Once you’ve heard one song here you’ve heard pretty much all of them.
There isn’t anything offensively bad on this album but I can think of a million other things I’d rather spend my time doing than listening to this.

Of course it seems formulaic; these guys codified the formula.

One of them is writing an angry nerd tirade about it.

Calling this album boring has got to be one of the most insane takes I have ever read.

Your brain is probably fucked. Not being funny either.

this album rules but i can't understand why no one's re-evaluated the self-titled up to this level - it's even darker and even more rewarding if you're willing to sit through it, if this is AIC's Nevermind, that's their In Utero.

The s/t is probably my 2nd favorite AiC, with Black Gives Way to Blue being an extremely close 3rd

in a more ideal world s/t would be like a 4.2-4.3 here and at least 3.92 on rym. but oh well. for being a "hipster" site rym sure does have a lot of popular rankings lmao
i'm more annoyed that they completely took the previous mix of Dirt off streaming. it messes with my scrobbles being "2022 Remaster"

I think a 4 is about right. Self titled is a fucking mess with more than a couple of moments that meander and don’t amount to much (Frogs and Sludge Factory outros) and a few songs that just aren’t very good (Brush Away, So Close, Nothin Song)
That said, its best songs are just as good as anything here. Over Now is straight up one of their best tracks, Head Creeps, Shame In You, and God Am are amazing, and even tho I talked a little bit of shit on em, Sludge Factory and Frogs are still great. Just overlong. That bitch is well over and hour and it should’ve been slimmed down to about this records length imo
This album is fucking perfect tho

i still haven't heard the selftitled, need to rectify that. i honestly slept on alice in chains until i was in my twenties cause the 'grunge' label had me under the misconception that they'd be a lot more pearl jam-y, got dirt from a thriftstore and it became a car staple for the rest of my twenties. dig facelift but yeah never tried selftitled
