Noctus, does the bandcamp flac version sound any different from the 24-bit version they selling on qobuz

My cd version arrived early today. While I can't put an actual number on it, I can wholeheartedly say that it's dynamic range is fan-fucking-tastic. Makes every instrument count. (AMG claims DR 13. I guess I'll take their word for it.)
Mesmerizing. Cinematic. Beautiful. Those are the words.

the CD is actually quite a bit less - we went for a more compressed version on digital/cd versions but i did blind listening tests on my very high-spec system. i couldn't tell the difference. they had the vinyl mix which was DR13. i'll be releasing that on bandcamp when people have released their LPs but honestly, you can't hear the difference.

Okay, thank you for clarifying :D

Well, I'd like to think it largely depends on audio equipment. I listened to this on Bandcamp several times, with a nice pair of quality headphones, so I already knew this was gonna be good. But playing it in my living room on my own equipment makes a big difference. Several moments sound way more dramatic because of it, like with the distant drumming in the beginning, or when the violins come in at about 11 minutes or so.
Goosebumps. Didn't get these from Bandcamp.
But yeah, vinyl sounds better by definition.

To me a good test for equipment is when I can hear at least two guitars playing distinctively when listening to harmonised bm trems
|
| |
Unless of course it's your typical lo-fi basement crap ("raw"). The best equipment in the world couldn't save that.

How lo-fi we talking? Mine even operates fine with Paysage d'Hiver
|

Paysage d'Hiver isn't exactly what I'd call lo-fi, and it most definately isn't crap. Think bands like Himelvaruwe. Now that's lo-fi. The sad thing is, part of me wants to like their music, but that's just impossible.

The hype is real for this one! Checking for sure, curious now!

Yeah, that's like tesco cubicle level of mixing and production

i think on top of being able to hear everything it was also important that the album really had a sound of its own - a flavor i guess. i think we retained that.

Definitely, Noctus. I don't think I can name a bm album that sounds like this one
